Caitlin Russell (she/her/hers) is a partner in the Employment & Labour Group at Cassels. She regularly advises public and private sector employers on all aspects of the employment relationship. Her expertise includes hiring and onboarding, employment contracts, termination packages, employment standards, HR policies, human rights, AODA, workplace investigations, accommodation and disability issues, wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, independent contractors and the enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements.
Caitlin acts for a variety of employers, providing strategic and practical advice across a diverse range of industries including, among others, insurance, finance, information technology services, and higher education. She also supports cross-boarder clients with operations in Canada and advises on employment issues arising in corporate restructurings and mergers and acquisitions.
Caitlin is often called upon to act for employers in civil and regulatory proceedings, having appeared before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Divisional Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and Ontario Labour Relations Board.
Caitlin is a frequent presenter and contributor to firm publications on current trends in Canadian employment law, with a particular focus on issues faced by Ontario employers – including, most recently, new pay transparency legislation. She also delivers training sessions to employers on a variety of topics, including workplace harassment and discrimination prevention, best practices in hiring, and Canadian employment law for US clients.
