John D.M. Norman

John Norman is an associate in the Business Law Group at Cassels. His practice focuses on general corporate and commercial law, with experience in mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance.

John also has extensive experience in advising startup and emerging companies – as well as private equity and venture capital firms – with respect to the acquisition, formation, financing, organization, and sale of startup and emerging companies, particularly in the technology sector. This expertise includes the organization of companies to angel and seed investments, non-dilutive financings, Series A and other preferred share financings, venture-backed standards, and exit transactions.

John completed his J.D. at the University of Ottawa. During the fall semester of his third year, he attended the University of Glasgow where he studied UK business law. Before joining Cassels as an associate, John articled with another national law firm. During this time, John gained valuable experience assisting on a wide range of corporate transactions.

Before attending law school, John received his Bachelor of Commerce with a concentration in Finance and International Business from the University of Northern British Columbia. During his undergraduate degree he worked for the university as a supplemental instructor in the calculus program and at one of Canada’s primary financial institutions.

John also worked for a First Nation located in a remote community in Northern BC, where he assisted with their yearly audit and drafted a new financial policy for the organization.
