Bethany McKoy

Bethany McKoy (she/her/hers) is Counsel and Director, Professional Resources – National Recruitment at Cassels. In this role, Bethany oversees the student and associate programs in the firm’s Toronto office, including recruiting, training, and ongoing professional development of the firm’s students and associates. Bethany is also a practising litigator, representing sophisticated clients in various corporate and commercial litigation matters.

Prior to joining Cassels, Bethany managed the student program at a leading litigation law firm, where she supported the firm’s student recruitment, professional development programming, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Before that, Bethany practiced as a litigator for several years, beginning her career at an international full-service law firm followed by several years at a small litigation boutique. As a litigator, Bethany developed a diverse practice of complex corporate, commercial, employment, and general civil litigation matters.

Bethany is passionate about the mentorship and development of young lawyers, and pursues this passion through her ongoing work in the legal community. Bethany was elected the first Director of Mentorship for the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) and developed the inaugural mentorship program for the Group of Racialized Women Litigators (GROWL). Bethany currently sits as Vice President of CABL. Bethany also acts as a mentor for the Osgoode First Generation Network and Black Law Students Association. Bethany is actively involved in the National Association of Legal Professionals, currently sitting as Co-Chair of the Diversity Working Group.

Anthony Scalia

Anthony Scalia (he/him/his) is an associate in the Banking & Specialty Group at Cassels. Anthony’s practice focuses on corporate and commercial law, representing both lenders and borrowers involved in domestic and cross-border financing transactions and corporate finance matters. His experience includes bilateral and syndicated lending, asset-based lending, aviation financings, acquisition financings, real estate financings, and fund financings.

Prior to joining Cassels, Anthony served as an associate in the Banking and Finance Group within the Toronto office of an international law firm.

Alessandro Bozzelli

Alessandro Bozzelli is a partner in the Banking & Specialty Finance Group at Cassels. Alessandro has developed strong knowledge and experience in a wide range of financing and debt transactions with a particular emphasis on acting for borrowers and lenders in various financing matters including bilateral and syndicated lending, asset-based lending, aviation financings, acquisition financings, franchise financings, cross-border financings, project financings, renewable energy projects, mezzanine financings, inter-creditor arrangements, real estate financings, receivables financing transactions and factoring transactions. He is recognized as a leader in his field by such publications as Lexpert, IFLR1000 and Best Lawyers in Canada: Ones to Watch.

Alessandro is fluent in English, French, and Italian. Prior to joining Cassels, he served as a partner in the Toronto office of an international law firm and as a project manager in the Toronto office of a North American energy company.

Sheri Sadeghian

Sheri Sadeghian is an associate in the Business Law Group at Cassels. Sheri’s practice focuses on corporate and securities law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and regulatory compliance. She has extensive experience supporting companies through incorporations, corporate structuring and restructuring, drafting agreements, and developing financing strategies, particularly for early-stage ventures.

With a background as a co-founder of a tech startup, Sheri possesses firsthand knowledge of the challenges business owners face on a daily basis. This unique perspective enables her to provide practical, client-centered legal advice tailored to meet both immediate business needs and long-term strategic goals. Sheri is dedicated to providing efficient, high-quality legal services that support her clients’ growth and success.

Peter V. Snell

Peter Snell* is a business law partner in the Franchise Group at Cassels, assisting clients to expand their franchise businesses in Canada and around the world. With a unique blend of business law and intellectual property law experience, Peter is well positioned to address key intellectual property issues and incorporate them into successful strategic planning. Getting to know his clients and their business is fundamental to Peter’s approach, and his understanding of a client’s business risks and opportunities is a critical component of his effective expansion strategies.

Peter is highly regarded as a recognized leader in franchise and distribution law in Canada. Peter enjoys assisting businesses focused on domestic and international franchising, licensing, product distribution, business law, and intellectual property/trademark law. Beyond the “pure franchise” work that Peter does, Peter is also sought out to assist with corporate reorganizations, corporate governance issues, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and negotiating and drafting commercial agreements.

As an experienced franchise lawyer, Peter is active in editing and authoring many franchise publications in Canada and abroad. Peter’s leadership extends to his involvement with grassroots community organizations. Jennifer Evola

Jennifer Evola is an associate in the Municipal, Planning & Environmental Group at Cassels. Jennifer’s practice focuses on land use planning and development law matters, advising on all aspects of the development approval process. She offers invaluable insight to clients through her public and private sector experience. Prior to joining Cassels, Jennifer articled and served as counsel at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. She also previously served as an associate at a boutique planning and development law firm in Toronto. Jennifer also offers experience before the Ontario Land Tribunal (formerly, the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal) and various levels of courts in Ontario.
