Sazia Aftab Achieves Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator (CCTA) Designation

Sazia Aftab, CCTA, a Toronto-based law clerk in our national Intellectual Property Group, has recently been certified by the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) as a Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator.

A Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator (CCTA) demonstrates the competencies required to assist a trademark agent or lawyer practicing in the field of trademark law. Duties cover a wide range of tasks related to the administration of trademarks, including conducting trademark searches, preparing trademark applications, paying government fees, docketing deadlines, preparing correspondence with the Trademarks Office, drafting letters to clients, and assisting with the administration of contentious proceedings.

With over a decade of experience, Sazia has an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of trademark law to Cassels. She assists in full-cycle trademark prosecution in Canada and the US, from the filing of applications to the registration stage. She also assists in opposition proceedings and in post-registration matters in both Canada and the US, including expungement proceedings and trademark maintenance. In addition, she collaborates with counsel in the US and in other jurisdictions to assist in the management of trademark portfolios for clients in Canada and abroad.
