Cassels at the Supreme Court of Canada

On January 15, 2025, Lara Jackson, John M. Picone, Kate Byers, and Laura Cloutier argued an appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada in Lundin Mining Corporation, et al. v. Dov Markowich. The Supreme Court of Canada heard arguments from Lundin Mining, the plaintiff and seven intervenors on two important issues: (i) what is a “material change” under Canadian securities laws; and (ii) is there a different approach to “material change” at the leave stage of a securities class action?

Cassels Appointment to the Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee

Congratulations to Stephanie Voudouris on her appointment to the Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee (SPAC) of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC). The SPAC provides comments and advises on a variety of policy and procedural initiatives relating to proceedings before the Capital Markets Tribunal.

The OSC also acknowledged John M. Picone’s contributions to SPAC following the end of his three-year term. Prior to John’s appointment, Lara Jackson served a three-year term.

Cassels at the Annual Women’s White Collar Defense Association Meeting

Danielle DiPardo and Kate Byers attended the Annual Attorney Meeting of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA) in Miami, Florida in March 2025.

The WWCDA promotes the common business and professional interests of women attorneys and other professionals who specialize in white collar and other defence and compliance work.
