Shermaine Chua (she/her/hers) is an associate in the Litigation Group at Cassels. Shermaine maintains a broad litigation practice, including corporate and securities, commercial, real estate, and Aboriginal law disputes. Prior to returning to Cassels as an associate, she completed her summer articles and articles with the firm.
Shermaine received her J.D. from the University of Victoria. She was actively involved in her law student community, having served as a law journal editorial board member and as a volunteer and executive member with several student organizations. Shermaine received the University of Victoria’s Ronald F. MacIsaac research paper prize and competed in the Julius Alexander Isaac Moot, where she and her partner placed second.
Keen on supporting access to justice initiatives, Shermaine provided community services as a law student through Pro Bono Students Canada, the Environmental Law Centre, and the Business Law Clinic. She continues this work as a volunteer with the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers BC’s Advocacy Committee and through pro bono work at Cassels.
Prior to studying law, she had worked as an investment representative with a wealth management firm and obtained a B.A. in International Relations from the University of British Columbia.
When not working, Shermaine can be found expanding her tea collection, trying out a new Vancouver restaurant, or travelling.
