Shae Rothery

Shae Rothery (she/her/hers) is a member of the 2023-2024 Articling Student class at Cassels and previously summered with the firm. Shae graduated with a J.D. from the University of Toronto in 2023.

During law school, Shae served as Co-President of the University of Toronto’s First Generation Network chapter, where she represented, advocated for, and mentored law students who were the first in their family to attend post-secondary. Additionally, Shae was involved with Ultra Vires, the Faculty of Law’s independent student newspaper, serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief in her final year of law school. Shae also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and was an executive member of both the Out-of-Province Students’ Association and In Vino Veritas. One of the highlights of Shae’s law school experience was her semester abroad at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.

Before joining Cassels as a summer student, Shae worked as a student caseworker at a community legal clinic, where she represented low-income and student clients in employment matters and academic appeals.

Prior to law school, Shae graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Calgary, receiving a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Sciences. After completing her undergraduate degree, Shae worked for Residence Services at the University of Calgary, where she managed on-campus student housing occupancy, drafted student housing contracts, revised residence conduct policies, and adjudicated cases of student non-academic misconduct.

In her spare time, Shae enjoys snowboarding, digital and film photography, and natural wine, having received her WSET 2 qualification with distinction from the Independent Wine Education Guild.
