Michael Barbero (he/him/his) is a partner in the Regulatory Group at Cassels. Michael’s practice focuses on complex regulatory matters. He develops practical strategies to assess risk, solve complex issues, and deliver advice clients can rely on.
A significant component of Michael’s practice involves advising and representing resource companies in regulatory proceedings and related litigation matters. He has acted for oil and gas companies, power generation owners and operators (thermal and renewable), and large-scale resource developers in matters before the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Natural Resources Conservation Board, and the Canada Energy Regulator among others.
Known for being innovative yet practical, Michael works closely with clients to understand their objectives and business priorities. He places a strong emphasis on efficiency and early-stage problem-solving, considering matters resolved through timely, practical solutions among his most meaningful successes.
