Jonathan Chandler is an associate in the Business Law Group at Cassels. Jonathan represents issuers and dealers alike in a variety of corporate, commercial and securities law matters, including public offerings, private placements and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Jonathan advises public and private companies with respect to general corporate and securities law issues, including continuous disclosure obligations, corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Jonathan also has experience drafting and advising on a range of commercial agreements, including earn-in agreement, property option agreements, shareholder agreements and royalty agreement and has acted for senior levels of government with respect to various public procurement projects.

Jonathan’s experience includes representing:

  • Goldcorp Inc. on its US$10 billion acquisition by Newmont Mining Corporation
  • The British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in a variety of public procurement projects
  • Freeport-McMoRan Inc. on numerous option and joint venture transactions for copper projects in various jurisdictions including Canada, Australia, Serbia, Africa, and South America
  • Antofagasta Minerals S.A. on numerous earn-in and joint venture transactions worldwide

Jonathan received his J.D. from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. While at Dalhousie, Jonathan attained Dean’s List distinction and received multiple academic awards, including prizes for highest standing in Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Taxation and Tort Law.

Prior to law school, Jonathan earned a B.A. in Economics (with distinction) from the University of Victoria, where he competed for the men’s varsity rowing team and received various academic and athletic awards. Before joining Cassels, Jonathan worked as a forest firefighter for the province of British Columbia.

Jonathan was both a summer and articling student with the firm before returning as an associate.
