Jackie Zhao

Jackie (Jiaqi) Zhao (he/him/his) is a member of the 2024-2025 Articling Student class at Cassels. He recently completed his J.D. at the University of British Columbia. During his 3L year, Jackie participated in a corporate counsel externship at a public gold mining company and continued working with the company over the summer. He also spent a semester on exchange at the National University of Singapore, supported by two scholarships.

Throughout law school, Jackie worked as a research assistant for a corporate law professor for two years, contributing to research projects on corporate law, sustainability, climate governance, and racial justice. He also served as an editor for the UBC Law Review and as an In-house Counsel Intern at A&W’s legal department. Jackie is passionate about corporate law and Asian legal studies, and he achieved the highest standing in Japanese business law in the past decade.

Before attending law school, Jackie earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from UBC. He published three articles on China and Taiwan and led a seminar on Taiwanese politics.

In his spare time, Jackie enjoys traveling (having visited 20 countries in the past year with more on his to-do list) and singing.
