Jean Cumming proclaims that “Consolidate: Feed the Future” was the theme of 2017 in her annual round-up of the Top 10 Deals of the Year in the January/February issue of Lexpert magazine where she writes: “Consolidation was the recurring theme in 2017 Canadian M&A. In certain sectors facing disruptors and high costs it took two large competitors to team up. In other sectors, it meant two purchasers coming together to acquire at least a third company.”
Cassels is proud to have been part of the one of top deals of the year: the Nortel Global Settlement, as restructuring counsel to US Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors. In addition, the firm is featured in one of the few deals worthy of an Honourable Mention in this year’s listing: Goldcorp, Barrick and Kinross’ three-way transaction, where the firm was counsel to Goldcorp.
