Cassels Donates $10,000 to Pro Bono Ontario in Support of Law Help Centres

11/19/2018

Cassels is pleased to announce that it has made a donation of $10,000 to Pro Bono Ontario to help provide emergency funding to keep the three Law Help Centres in Toronto and Ottawa courthouses open and to support the work of PBO in providing legal services to those in need and promoting access to justice.

Law Help Centres allow counsel of all backgrounds – from sole practitioners to those practicing at large, full-service firms like Cassels Brock – to provide low-income Ontarians with direct, effective legal advice. These centres also promote efficiency in the civil justice system and have generated millions in savings for Ontario courts. Based on a 2017 study commissioned by PBO, Law Help Centres provide Ontarians with a 10:1 return on investment by eliminating frivolous claims from court dockets and helping self represented parties address their legal issues in a more efficient, streamlined manner.

Our lawyers have provided many hours of free legal advice to Ontarians in need through the Law Help Centres and other PBO programs. We are proud to have been honoured by PBO at its 2016 awards gala and we are equally proud to be part of the legal community supporting PBO through monetary donations aimed at keeping their doors open.
