Dian Howard (she/her/hers) serves as counsel in the Intellectual Property Group at Cassels. She is also a Registered Trademark Agent. Dian’s practice covers the protection, enforcement, acquisition and licensing of copyrights and trademarks. She advises clients on the clearance, prosecution and management of domestic and international trademark portfolios and negotiates commercial agreements involving intellectual property rights. Dian provides clients with guidance on matters concerning copyright infringement, copyright protection and enforcement. She also advises clients on domain name and internet-related disputes, packaging and labelling requirements, marketing and advertising compliance, as well as federal and provincial privacy law and data protection matters.

Dian is a dual-qualified lawyer, having been called to the bar in Ontario (2019) and Jamaica (2015). She holds a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies and a Legal Education Certificate from Norman Manley Law School. She also received a Certificate in Copyright law from Harvard Law School.

Prior to joining Cassels, Dian was an associate at a boutique intellectual property firm in Toronto and served as legal counsel at a Canadian copyright collective.
