On March 20, 2024, Lina El Mugammar spoke at the Artists Legal Drop-In: Navigating Public Art held by Artists’ Legal Advice Services (ALAS) and CARFAC Ontario.
This virtual, community-led forum provided a space for artists interested in public art to learn both from each other and from expert facilitators. Lina El Mugammar, alongside multi-disciplinary fine artist, muralist and arts educator, Curtia Wright, facilitated a discussion on the varied and complex legal, logistical and entrepreneurial challenges unique to the creation of public art. The session addressed various topics, including securing opportunities, negotiating agreements, copyright and intellectual property law, navigating disputes, workplace/on-site safety, insurance, collaborative work and artist collectives.
