Sebastian Zhou (he/him/his) is a member of the 2024-2025 Articling Student class at Cassels. Sebastian has recently received his J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. At law school, Sebastian was actively involved in organizations to serve different communities’ legal needs. He was a caseworker at Advocates for Injured Workers, carrying workers’ compensation files before Workplace Safety Insurance Board and the appeals tribunal. He worked as a student volunteer at The 519 Trans ID Clinic through Pro Bono Students Canada to assist transgender people with name and sex designation change applications. He also served as the Outreach Student Coordinator at Artists’ Legal Advice Services, where he spearheaded initiatives to further engage Ontario artists and creative workers. Sebastian was a Summer Student at Cassels in 2023.
Prior to law school, Sebastian graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College, focusing on contemporary art history and curatorial studies. He spent the third year as an exchange student at Wadham College, the University of Oxford, where he completed his dissertation. Sebastian also worked as a public relations specialist at a biopharmaceutical company and a marketing operations manager at a design consultancy firm, both in Shanghai, China.
In his spare time, Sebastian enjoys trying different fitness classes and taking his Shih Tzu dog for long walks.
