Maria Kim is a member of the 2023-2024 Articling Student class at Cassels. Maria graduated from the J.D. program at the University of Buenos Aires, School of Law, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In Canada, Maria undertook graduate-level Canadian Common Law courses at Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia.

Prior to joining Cassels, Maria worked at a construction company and at a large natural gas producer. Maria’s experience within the construction industry includes the review and risk analysis of construction prime contracts, including construction management contracts, and the preparation of subcontracts. While working at an oil and gas company, Maria prepared and managed complex mineral land agreements and as part of the mineral land acquisitions and divestitures group, Maria prepared purchase and sale agreements for mineral rights and royalty interests, managing closing and post-closing matters. During this time, Maria volunteered at Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration (CAPLA) Education Committee.

In Argentina, Maria’s practice of law included commercial and civil litigation and Maria provided advice on corporate, business structuring, asset purchase and sale, and financing to businesses including international oil and gas exploration and production companies establishing business in Argentina.

Maria is fluent in Spanish and Korean and enjoys travelling with family and friends, playing tennis and golf in summertime.
