Mackenzie Stewart is an associate in the Intellectual Property Group at Cassels with a focus on intellectual property litigation. Mackenzie has a background in regulatory and policy matters relating to copyright and cultural heritage law.

Prior to joining Cassels, Mackenzie clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. She also worked as counsel for the Department of Justice, where she focused on copyright policy and legislative drafting. This background has given her an in depth understanding of both appellate advocacy and the mechanics and policy rationale of legislative drafting.

Mackenzie obtained her JD from the University of Saskatchewan in 2020, finishing with Great Distinction. She also holds a Certification de common law en français from the University of Ottawa which she received concurrently with her JD. Mackenzie is a slam poet, a dedicated Girl Guide leader, and enjoys all things arts and culture. She is enthusiastic, exuberant, and incredibly nerdy, and she brings this energy into her legal practice every day.
