Emily Ernst (she/her/hers) is a member of the 2025 Summer Student class at Cassels.

Emily is a second-year JD student at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Prior to her legal studies, she graduated with high distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours BA in Law & Society and a Minor in Indigenous Studies.

Emily is the Founder and President of the UofT Fashion Law Society, where she organizes events and academic content exploring the intersections of law and the fashion industry. She also holds a certificate in Fashion Law from the Fashion Law Institute at Fordham University School of Law, where she completed an intensive program focused on intellectual property, licensing, anti-counterfeiting, and international trade in the fashion sector.

In law school, Emily worked as a Student Caseworker with the Family Justice Centre through Pro Bono Students Canada, supporting clients with family law issues by preparing for summary legal advice appointments, conducting legal research, and assisting with form completion. Additionally, she volunteered with Luke’s Place through Pro Bono Students Canada, helping create legal information materials and a legal aid directory for survivors of intimate partner violence.

Emily also volunteers with the Artists’ Legal Advice Services, where she conducts intake and facilitates summary legal advice appointments for artists seeking legal guidance. She holds a certificate in Transformative Mediation from Community Justice Initiatives, where she was trained in communication and conflict resolution techniques.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys theatre, crafting, city walks with friends, thrifting, and watching documentaries on monarchies!
