Aamir Chherawala (he/him/his) is an associate in the Capital Markets Group at Cassels. His practice focuses on corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on advising public companies and investment dealers on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, business combinations, securities and equity offerings, and other financing transactions. He also advises public issuers across a range of industries on securities law compliance, continuous disclosure obligations, corporate governance matters, and Canadian stock exchange requirements.
Aamir has been involved in numerous high-profile transactions, including representing:
- Allied Gold Corporation in its US$267 million financing, business combination, and go-public transaction.
- A syndicate of underwriters in connection with Capstone Copper and Orion’s $431 million bought deal financing.
- Lithium Americas in its US$650 million equity investment with General Motors.
- Tiny Ltd. in its acquisition of a majority interest in Serato Audio Research Limited and concurrent $20 million subscription receipt and $32 million convertible debenture financings.
- HEALWELL AI in its upsized $20 million bought deal offering.
- Tiny Ltd. in its graduation to the Toronto Stock Exchange.
- Western Copper in its $21.3 million strategic investment by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation.
- Amcomri Entertainment in the sale of its television and film business.
For his work, Aamir has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for his work in mergers and acquisitions and securities law.
Aamir holds a J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, respectively, graduating with honours from Rotman. During his time at the University of Toronto, Aamir volunteered with the HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario through Pro Bono Students Canada.
Before joining Cassels, Aamir summered and articled with the firm before returning as an associate. Aamir also worked as a senior associate in the Vancouver office of a global law firm.
