On November 2, 2018, Steven Kennedy was certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Certified Specialist (Intellectual Property Law: Trademark Law). The Law Society of Ontario confers the Specialist designation to only a small percentage of lawyers in Ontario.
The Certified Specialist program recognizes leading lawyers who have met established standards of experience and knowledge requirements in designated areas of law, and who have maintained exemplary standards of professional practice. The program aims to promote the public interest and enhance lawyer competence by facilitating the development of specialty expertise in a given area.
Trademark Law relates to trademark, trade dress and related rights under the Trademarks Act and regulations and at common law. The practice of Trademark Law includes the acquisition, protection, maintenance and enforcement of trademark rights in the Trademarks Office and the courts, and the licensing and sale of such rights.
There are currently only 31 Certified Specialists in this area in Ontario.
Congratulations, Steven!
