Mark Davis and Chandimal Nicholas Discuss New IP Programs with Law Times

04/06/2022

Mark Davis and Chandimal Nicholas have been quoted in an article titled ‘New Intellectual Property Programs Help Businesses Implement IP Strategies,’ published by the Law Times.

Writes Annabel Oromoni: “New global guidelines and government initiatives will help Canadian enterprises identify, protect, and understand the importance of intellectual property in their company strategies.”

Mark believes that the significance and benefits of a comprehensive IP business strategy are now better understood by stakeholders at a provincial, national, and global level: “The initiatives provide information to businesses on the importance of IP strategy and how to develop and implement IP strategies that were not available before.”

Chandimal says Canada is currently implementing the new framework. For example, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) announced a collaboration to offer education, training and certification programs following the ISO Standard 56005:2020 framework in December 2020.

Notes Mark: “It is important for each business to have the right IP strategy. Lawyers with experience in successfully developing IP strategies are best placed to help clients succeed.”
