06/12/2020

Cassels is pleased to announce that Chris Horkins, partner in our Advocacy Group, will serve as Chair of The Advocates’ Society’s Young Advocates Standing Committee (YASC) for the upcoming 2020-2021 term.

Founded in 1963, The Advocates’ Society is Canada’s premier national organization for the litigation bar providing first class professional development programs and resources, community and networking events. The Society is also regularly involved in issue advocacy through submissions to governments and regulatory organizations and interventions in important cases impacting access to justice, judicial independence, and the practice of litigation in Canada. YASC is the young lawyers’ division of The Advocates’ Society, aimed at promoting the interests of lawyers in their first ten years of practice who primarily practice in litigation. Chris has been involved as a committee member with YASC since 2013, during which time he has helped organize networking events, charitable and pro bono initiatives, and assisted with TAS’ submissions and interventions on various issues and court cases. Chris was appointed to YASC’s executive in 2018, serving as Secretary from 2018-2019 and Vice-Chair from 2019-2020.

Chris’ leadership of YASC continues a strong tradition of Cassels’ involvement in The Advocates’ Society.
