Cassels Launches 2026 Grant to Support Canadian Black-Owned Businesses

09/16/2026

The Cassels Black-Owned Business Grant, supported by Wheaton Precious Metals, is back for its seventh year!

Created to advance equity, inclusion and long-term economic opportunity, the program supports Black-owned businesses in the communities where we live and work through financial assistance and access to pro bono legal support.

Powered by the collective contributions of Cassels firm members, with the support of Wheaton Precious Metals, the grant reflects our commitment to helping address barriers to growth and creating meaningful opportunities for Black entrepreneurs across Canada.

This year, Cassels is excited to be partnering with Black Opportunity Fund to maximize the impact and value of the program for applicants.

  • Open to Canadian for-profit businesses, that have been incorporated for at least two years, and in which 51% or more of the owners or shareholders self-identify as Black.
  • Applicant businesses must have their head office located in Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver.
  • Each Grant recipient will be eligible to receive grant funds and pro bono legal advice with a cumulative value of up to $80,000. To date, 26 recipients have shared in a combined total grant and legal services pool worth $1,260,000.
  • Applications are open from September 15, 2026 to October 16, 2026.

We encourage eligible business owners — and those who know a strong candidate business — to share this opportunity within their networks. Download and share the program flyer with your network.
