Cassels Black-owned Small Business Grant Program Profiled by CBA’s National Magazine

02/18/2025

The Cassels Black-owned Small Business Grant Program has been profiled in the article “Supporting a Diverse and Inclusive Community,” published by the Canadian Bar Association’s National Magazine. Bethany McKoy was quoted as part of the profile.

Writes Caroline James: “Cassels’ Black-owned small business grant program is a ‘passion project’ that benefits not only the funding recipients but also the lawyers involved and the firm as a whole.”

Says Bethany: “It’s very much a labour of love. We’ve provided our grant recipients with advocacy support, corporate advice, and intellectual property advice. We really try to work with any of the departments we have and any services we can offer to provide [grant recipients] with the same excellent service we do our clients.”

Since its founding in 2020, the grant program has provided more than $530,000 to support an inclusive and diverse entrepreneurial community.

Notes Bethany: “We can be positive proof of the success of ventures like this, and I hope it will inspire others to just do it.”
