Canadian Intellectual Property Office Extends All Deadlines to May 1, 2020

03/30/2020

As expected, as part of its ongoing efforts to manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has prolonged the automatic extension period beyond the original April 1, 2020 date.

Any deadlines fixed under the Trademarks Act, Patent Act, and the Industrial Design Act falling between March 16, 2020 and April 30, 2020 have now been extended to May 1, 2020. Once again, CIPO has noted that it may prolong the extension period beyond that date should these circumstances continue.

The full text of the notice from CIPO can be seen here.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as soon as they become available. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact any member of our intellectual property group for more information.
