Tyler Li is a member of the 2026-2027 Articling Student Class at Cassels. Tyler graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. At uOttawa Law, Tyler pursued opportunities to engage with complex legal issues, receiving an award for his research on digital assets, banking, and securities law at the Ottawa Law Review’s annual research colloquium. He has since carried his research forward to the Senate of Canada, where his work has informed policymakers on issues relating to payment services, digital assets, lending, and artificial intelligence.
Tyler has achieved national and international recognition for his skills in advocacy through competitive mooting and varsity debating. He earned Best Appellant Factum, Best Appellant Team, and Best Faculty at the Adam F. Fanaki Competition Law Moot, while placing as 2nd Runner-Up for Best Appellant Oralist. He was also ranked 8th Best Oralist at the Davies Corporate/Securities Law Moot. During his undergraduate studies, Tyler was a varsity debater representing Western University’s Debating Union, ranking among the top 25 globally at the World Universities Debating Championships and placing 3rd in North America at the North American Universities Debating Championships.
Tyler previously worked at international law firms in Hong Kong and China, and served as the Global Chief of Staff of an international legal news publication. In his spare time, he enjoys performing magic tricks, attending EDM festivals, and playing his favorite video games.
