Maryam Helmy is a member of the 2026 summer student class and is currently pursuing her JD at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.
Prior to law school, Maryam attended McMaster University, where she majored in philosophy and graduated summa cum laude. During her undergraduate studies, she worked at an AI firm as a senior data annotator, auditing machine learning data and training models to accurately generate and respond to Arabic and Spanish prompts.
In law school, Maryam serves as Co-President of the Muslim Law Students’ Association, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Law and Equity, and a mentor with the Rotman Commerce Law Association. In her 1L summer, she worked as a Legal Fellow at the United Nations in Geneva, where she prepared oral briefings and written submissions for treaty body sessions and conducted legal research on international law. She also designed and developed a centralized database of treaty body submissions to streamline the preparation of future reports.
Outside of work, Maryam enjoys travelling and adrenaline-based activities. She has lived in six countries, visited over 25, and has gone skydiving.
