Anna Chuprun

Anna Chuprun (she/her/hers) is a member of the 2025 Summer Student class at Cassels. She is a JD candidate at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

In law school, Anna served as the president of the International Law Students Association and is the current director of FTX productions, the law school musical. In her first year, she was further involved with the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) and participated in 1L moots and a negotiation competition. While at the University of Ottawa, she also worked as the Visiting Research Student Coordinator in the International Research and Experiential Learning Department, where she managed research student files and provided clients with individualized support.

Prior to Law School, Anna completed Bachelor of Arts at McGill University, double majoring in Political Science and English Drama and Theatre. During undergrad, Anna was involved in Model UN as a delegate and conference organizer, which provided her the opportunity to work with students across North America and engage thoughtfully with global issues.

In her spare time, Anna enjoys trying new fitness activities, theatre, thrifting, and spending time with her friends and family.

Tyler Li

Tyler Li (he/they) is a member of the 2025 Summer Student class at Cassels. He is pursuing his Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western University where he graduated with distinction.

At uOttawa Law, Tyler has pursued opportunities to expand his engagement with complex legal issues. He was awarded Best Presentation at the Ottawa Law Review’s Annual Research Colloquium for his research on digital assets, banking, and securities law. Tyler also excelled in the 2025 Adam F. Fanaki Competition Law Moot, earning awards for Best Faculty, Best Appellant Team, Best Appellant Factum, and Best Appellant Oralist (2nd Runner-up). His writing is set to be published in the Canadian Competition Law Review.

Tyler was a varsity debater during his undergraduate studies. Representing Western University’s Debating Union, he ranked among the top 25 globally at the World Universities Debating Championships and placed 3rd in North America at the North American Universities Debating Championships.

Prior to joining Cassels, Tyler worked at international law firms in Hong Kong and China, focusing on private and public debt and equity financings. He currently serves as the Global Chief of Staff of an international legal news publication.

In his spare time, Tyler enjoys performing magic tricks, EDM festivals, and playing league of legends.

Clark Wang

Clark Wang (he/him/his) is a member of the 2025 Summer Student class at Cassels, and a Juris Doctor (JD) candidate at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

Brining over a decade of experience in assurance and financial analysis, Clark hopes to offer a distinctive perspective shaped by his financial background. Before law school, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting with High Distinction from the University of Toronto and built a career as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), specializing in financial analysis, client-focused problem-solving, and tax.

Driven by an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for crafting strategic solutions to business challenges, Clark transitioned to law to broaden his impact. At the University of Ottawa, he volunteered as an Assistant Editor for the Ottawa Law Review and competed in the Donald G.H. Bowman National Tax Moot, where he and his partner advanced to the semifinals as Runner-Up Respondent Team.

Eager to bridge theory with practice, Clark looks forward to gaining hands-on legal practical experience while collaborating with exceptional professionals and colleagues.

Outside professional pursuits, Clark enjoys watching football, basketball, and Formula One, and cherishes quality time with his family.

Jason Wang

Jason Wang is an associate in the Business Law Group at Cassels. Jason has a corporate and securities law practice with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, public and private equity and debt financings, capital market transactions, corporate finance, shareholder activism and corporate governance matters.

Jason has significant expertise in both public and private M&A, having led and acted on share and asset acquisitions, plans of arrangement, take-over bids and complex corporate reorganizations. Jason also acts for issuers and underwriters on equity and debt financings, including shelf and short form prospectus offerings and private placements.

His experience includes acting for:

  • issuers and underwriters/agents in private and public equity and debt offerings, including cross-border financings, financial advisory services and regulatory compliance matters;
  • public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions transactions including share and asset purchases, amalgamations, and plans of arrangement; and
  • advising clients on corporate and securities law matters, including with respect to corporate governance, continuous disclosure requirements and other regulatory compliance issues.

Jason is also currently a board member of Startup Grind Calgary, an internationally focused startup organization that educates, inspires, and connects entrepreneurs across international chapters.

Before joining Cassels, Jason was an associate in the Calgary office of another national law firm.

Braek Urquhart

Braek Urquhart (he/him/his) is an indirect/commodity tax lawyer providing tax advisory, dispute, and transactional services in the Tax & Trusts group at Cassels. Braek advises clients navigating Canada’s complex GST/HST, sales, and specialised transaction tax landscape. Braek specializes in complex tax issues that can arise in emerging industries, innovative business models, M&A and real estate transactions, and complex regulatory environments. Braek supports clients in all sectors, including those in the financial services (financing, fintech, insurance, crypto, banking, etc.), real property, and resource sectors.

Braek is a recipient of the Norman Guerin Award, awarded to recipients for an outstanding contribution to the advancement of commodity tax studies. Prior to joining Cassels, Braek was a lawyer with another national law firm and was a consultant at a Big Four accounting firm.

Courtney Wong

Courtney Wong (she/her) is an associate in the Business Law Group at Cassels. Courtney attended law school at the University of Ottawa, where she graduated cum laude. While at the University of Ottawa, she worked extensively with the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC), where she assisted in a copyright case before the Supreme Court of Canada and in reverse class action cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Courtney also interned with a Canadian e-commerce company where she researched foreign direct investment, artificial intelligence, and regulatory requirements for tech platforms. Prior to joining Cassels as an associate, Courtney was both a summer and articling student with the firm.

Prior to law school, Courtney worked with international clients in a business immigration law firm. She specialized in Peace, Conflict, and Justice at the University of Toronto and graduated with distinction from the Honours B.A. program. At the University of Toronto, Courtney interned with jack.org and researched mental health support systems in educational institutions.

In her spare time, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family and dog Harley, working on lowering her golf handicap, cheering for the Leafs and Seahawks, travelling, and going to concerts and new restaurants in Toronto.
