Cassels Successfully Obtains Regulatory Approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission for the Jenner Wind Power Project Amendment

07/07/2021

Potentia Renewables Inc. purchased the Jenner Wind Power Projects in 2015. The Jenner Wind Power Project (JWPP) is now held by a project-specific limited partnership Jenner 1 LP (Jenner 1). Jenner 1 applied for approval of an amendment to the JWPP from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The original JWPP, which received initial approval from the AUC in 2018, and approval for an amendment in 2019, involves the construction of over 20 wind turbines with a generation capacity of 122.4 MW.

Cassels advised Jenner 1 on its amendment to the JWPP, which was filed with the AUC on April 13, 2021. The amendment included a proposal to construct a larger model of turbine, allowing Jenner 1 to reduce the number of turbines being constructed while maintaining the JWPP’s stated generation capacity of 122.4 MW. The AUC approved the amendment in 85 days on July 7, 2021, finding that the amendment was in the public interest, with regard to the social, economic and other incremental effects of the amended project, including its effect on the environment.
