Shane Hardy is a partner at Cassels and serves as Chair of the firm’s Business Law Group. As part of his extensive trademark practice, Shane has acted as counsel to a wide range of Canadian and international intellectual property rights holders and has assisted in the acquisition, licensing, protection and enforcement of some of the world’s most famous trademarks. A Registered Trademark Agent, Shane is one of a select, few Canadian practitioners recognized for their expertise in commercial transactions regarding trademarks. He is often called upon by brand owners around the world to assist in the acquisition of businesses that have brands and intellectual property as core assets.

Shane has managed international trademark portfolios on behalf of some of Canada’s most successful brands. He has prosecuted trademark applications, acted for clients in trademark oppositions and cancellation proceedings, and provided opinions to domestic and international clients on trademark availability and registrability. Shane has enforced and licensed intellectual property rights on behalf of well-known international retailers, educational service providers, colleges and universities. He also acted as counsel on the acquisition of a major Canadian distillery on behalf of one of the world’s leading owners of alcohol brands.
