Jeremy Martin has been quoted in the story “Lawyers Kick in Funding to Help PBO Centres” published by Law Times.
Writes Anita Balakrishnan: “Ontario lawyers raised $150,000 in 10 days to fund Pro Bono Ontario, after the non-profit said it would not have enough money to run three legal help centres next year.”
One solution floated by some of Pro Bono Ontario’s supporters is a levy on Law Society of Ontario members, but some see a problem with that solution. Says Jeremy: “There are members of our bar that already do extensive pro bono work. It would be inequitable to ask even more from those lawyers…”
Cassels Brock is proud to be part of a community of law firms providing monetary donations to Pro Bono Ontario. These donations will help keep the doors open at Law Help Centres and support PBO’s work in providing legal services to those in need and promoting access to justice.
