Further Extension of Intellectual Property Timelines

05/14/2020

As governments continue to grapple with the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, on May 13, 2020, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) once again prolonged its automatic extension period for any deadlines fixed under the Trademarks Act, Patent Act, and the Industrial Design Act. Currently, any such deadlines falling between March 16, 2020 and May 29, 2020 have been extended to June 1, 2020. Once again, CIPO has noted that it may prolong the extension period beyond that date should these circumstances continue.
